SDG "Gender Equality"

The Wiesbaden answer in Hessisch: “Mensche – lebbe un’ lebbe losse”

What is this about and what does the SDG "Gener Equality" mean for the event industry?

SDG 5 stands for gender quality, naturally inside the event industry too. As with other sectors, for the event  industry, this means equal opportunities, equal pay and management positions for women. Events can be used to create awareness for gender-specific topics and prevent discrimination. Panels and expert talks should be staffed based on expertise regardless of gender, and women promoted and encouraged to share their expertise. (tw-media.com (opens in a new tab))

How can event organisers and their service providers contribute to achieving this goal?

Event organisers and their service providers can contribute to gender equality by building diverse teams, ensuring equal pay and opportunities for advancement, and developing programmes for promoting women to management positions. They can address gender-specific topics and create inclusive environments through the conscious organisation of events. Networks and platforms for the dialogue between women in the sector as well as the implementation of clear directives against discrimination and harassment also contribute to achieving this goal.

How do we implement this?

✓ Providing contacts:

  • We have an Equal Opportunities Officer in our parent company, TriWiCon, so that employees concerned in the relevant areas can reach out to a competent, neutral point of contact. The Equal Opportunities Officer accompanies job interviews and ensures that there is equal pay for the individual areas. Additional topics include mobbing at work, parental leave and harassment at work among other things. Our Equal Opportunities Officer works in accordance with the German General Act on Equal Treatment (Allgemeine Gleichbehandlungsgesetz - AGG).
  • AGG training for employees and management

✓ Equal pay:

  • We have signed up to the public service collective pay agreement (Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes - TVöD) and the trainee public service collective pay agreement (Tarifvertrag für Auszubildende des öffentlichen Dienstes - TVAöD).
  • The pay category is displayed transparently in job ads. This applies equally to all applicants.

✓ Equality in management positions:

  • 50% of our senior management are women.
  • 2 out of 4 of our general managers are women.

✓ Diversity at inhouse events:

  • At our Convention Wiesbaden Campus (opens in a new tab)formats for communicating knowledge, we engage speakers of both genders equally who enhance various topics with their expertise – because knowledge and ability are independent of gender.
