Very few regions in Europe are as close to the rest of the world as the Rhein-Main Region. Gateways are Frankfurt Airport, one of the largest hubs in international air transit, and the regional Airport Frankfurt-Hahn.

Frankfurt

The city's proximity to Frankfurt Airport is important, especially for international visitors; the second largest airport in continental Europe is only 30 minutes away by car or by train.

There are direct flights from Frankfurt to about 260 destinations. More than 120 national and international airlines fly to and from Frankfurt Airport. Lufthansa, the German national airline, is based here.

Moreover, the airport and the city are linked by the S 8 and S 9 train lines.

Frankfurt-Hahn

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport lies west of Wiesbaden; the journey takes about 60 minutes by car. Since it went into operation as a civilian airport in 1993, it has been one of Germany's fastest growing airports.

It took only ten years for this first German low-cost airport with a license to operate 24 hours a day to become the eleventh-largest international airport in Germany.

Every day, more than 50 regularly scheduled flights by Ryanair, Wizzair and Iceland Express take off here. Renting a car is the most convenient way for passengers to travel from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to Wiesbaden. All major car rental agencies are present at Hahn Airport. Moreover, there is a regular bus service to and from Frankfurt am Main and Mainz.
