August Macke - Rope walker, 1914, Kunstmuseum Bonn

30 October to 9 May

August Macke (1887-1914), one of the major German Expressionist painters at the beginning of the 20th century, lost his life in the First World War when he was only 27 years old. After the war, his wife Elisabeth organised an August Macke Memorial Exhibition featuring 160 works from the artist's estate. In the autumn of 1920, this presentation was also shown at Museum Wiesbaden.

To mark the centenary of this large-scale retrospective, Museum Wiesbaden will be showing August Macke's oeuvre in all its diversity, highlighting all of his creative periods by presenting carefully selected works. The exhibition was put together in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
