Wine growing in Dotzheim

Wine growing in Dotzheim is documented since 1275 and has experienced a boom in particular in quality wines since the 1980s thanks to the modern methods of young, well-qualified wine-makers. The quality of the wine is officially documented down to the present day: There are wines from designated areas, kabinett wines and late vintage wines and also even higher qualities. Ice wines have also been harvested in this location. Riesling and Pinot noir are cultivated alongside Dornfelder, Cabernet sauvignon and Silvaner. The small 3.5 hectare city vineyard "Dozzemer Juddekersch" is fully classified in the first plant (erstes Gewächs).

Dotzheimer Judenkirch

The vineyard name is derived from the Judenkirsche (Jewish cherry, Physalis Alkekengi). The name was formed since the pronunciation of "ch" and "sch" is difficult in the local dialect of the Rheingau. The soils are loess loam, as well as clay and marl soils. The wines are earthy with a steely acidity.
